Curled up with a book

Curled up with a book, snug and warm,
fire roasts on a cold winter’s night.
Dogs barking at anything that moves,
sea meets sky with panoramic views.
Wetsuits drying in the salty air,
fresh cut grass and baking bread.
Large kitchen table which people surround,
laughing and joking until sundown.
Debate and argument compete with birds.
Heavenly food, filled to the top,
voices of family from close and afar.
Whānau images line the walls.
Old and new contest for space.
Lounging in a hammock beneath a carpet of stars,
wrapped in a blanket safe and secure.
Curled up with a book, snug and warm.
